Saab watch

Saab watch

The project was developed for the Saab Car Museum. The client had a clear vision of what they wanted; the watch should be strongly inspired by the RPM gauge of the SAAB 99 EMS model from 1972.

Altering the layout

The markings on the original RPM gauge were spread out with uneven intervals, if these were used then its main function of telling time would be confusing since the markings were not lining up to the traditional hour positions. Therefor the placement of the markings were altered to correspond with the hours.

The case

The case diameter of 42 mm (which is fairly wide) in order to show off the details as well as possible. Black leather was chosen for the strap as this would bring the most resemblance to the dashboard surrounding the gauge.

To create the circle at the center we used a movement that allows for 3 hands (hours, minutes, seconds) and designed the inner circle to be the seconds hand and include a small indication on the rim of it so the ticking would be visible.
